In the wake of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo’s suspension, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, the most senior of the nine remaining justices on the Supreme Court, has been appointed as Acting Chief Justice of Ghana.

Born on December 26, 1956, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie brings over 30 years of distinguished service to the judiciary. His legal and public service career is characterized by notable versatility and dedication. Prior to his appointment to the Supreme Court in 2008, he served as a Justice of the Court of Appeal, as well as a High Court Judge and a Circuit Court Judge.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s extensive professional background extends beyond the judiciary. Before joining the bench in 1992, he worked as a Principal Inspector of Taxes and Head of Legal for the Eastern and Volta Regions at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). He also served in the Ghana Prisons Service, where he rose to the position of Deputy Superintendent of Prisons and Head of Legal at the Prisons Headquarters.

A proud alumnus of Konongo-Odumase Secondary School, he pursued higher education at the University of Ghana and the Ghana School of Law, institutions that laid the groundwork for his illustrious career.
