The Parliamentary Select Committee on Health is set to embark on a four-day nationwide assessment tour of Regional and Teaching Hospitals from Tuesday, April 22, to Friday, April 25, 2025. This initiative is part of the Committee’s oversight role to evaluate the state of healthcare infrastructure and service delivery across the country.
Members of Parliament will be divided into three teams to gain firsthand insight into the conditions of major public hospitals. The tour aims to inform policy recommendations that will enhance healthcare delivery for all Ghanaians.
Hospital Tour Schedule by Teams:
- Team One: Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, Nalerigu Regional Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital, Tamale Regional Hospital, and Wa Regional Hospital.
- Team Two: Damongo Regional Hospital, Techiman Regional Hospital, Sunyani Regional Hospital, and Goaso Regional Hospital.
- Team Three: Kumasi Regional Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Koforidua Regional Hospital, Ho Regional Hospital, Ho Teaching Hospital, and Greater Accra Regional Hospital.
The Committee, which plays a vital role in shaping Ghana’s health policies and programs, aims to engage directly with hospital administrators, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders. This engagement is designed to uncover systemic challenges and gather insights for improving the nation’s healthcare infrastructure and services.
After the visits, leaders of the various teams will present comprehensive reports to Parliament, highlighting pressing issues such as equipment deficits, staff shortages, funding gaps, and facility maintenance needs.
The Health Committee has urged hospital authorities and local stakeholders to collaborate fully during the tour, emphasizing that cooperation is essential for building a resilient and accessible healthcare system. The findings from this assessment are expected to significantly influence upcoming budgetary allocations and strategic planning for the health sector.
