Ghana Football Association President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has resigned from his position as President of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B, effective immediately. This decision comes after his recent appointment as 2nd Vice-President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which has increased demands on his time and responsibilities.

Okraku cited his expanded roles at both the Ghana Football Association and CAF as the reason for his resignation, stating that he can no longer effectively manage all responsibilities. He expressed gratitude to the WAFU team for their dedication and support during his tenure, reaffirming his commitment to the growth of football in West Africa.

During his leadership, WAFU Zone B achieved notable progress, including the relocation of its permanent Secretariat and strategic initiatives to foster growth and collaboration among member associations. Okraku’s efforts solidified relationships and set a strong foundation for the zone’s continued development.

Okraku’s departure opens the door for new leadership to build upon his accomplishments and drive the region’s football aspirations forward. He assured stakeholders that the transition would be smooth and a new leader would be appointed soon.¹ ²

Under Okraku’s guidance, WAFU Zone B saw significant advancements, and his commitment to peace, unity, and progress within the region earned him recognition. His resignation marks the end of an era, but his legacy will continue to shape the future of West African football.
