A disturbing incident unfolded during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) “Thank You Tour” in the Bantama Constituency of the Ashanti Region, leaving a young man stabbed and sparking concerns about party vigilante activities. The victim, a supporter of Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, who contested but lost the NPP flagbearer race ahead of the 2024 elections, was allegedly attacked by individuals believed to be party vigilantes.

Eyewitnesses claim that the confrontation began when a group of students from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) attempted to prevent the armed men from taking away cash presented after the event. The situation escalated when the students were threatened at gunpoint, and one of them was stabbed in the upper right rib during a scuffle.

The students allege that they were targeted for chanting songs in support of Kennedy Agyapong, and the armed men brandished guns and fired warning shots into the air. Medical staff at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital confirmed that the victim underwent minor surgery and is in stable condition.

The incident has been reported to the police, who have retrieved eight spent bullet casings from the scene. Kennedy Agyapong visited the victim at the hospital and may consider withdrawing from the NPP “Thank You Tour” following the incident. This violent episode raises concerns about the safety and security of political events and the need for party leaders to ensure their supporters respect the law and others’ rights.
