The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Major General William Agyapong, recently hosted a gathering of all Two-Star Generals in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) at his office in Burma Camp. During the meeting, the CDS expressed appreciation for the Generals’ exceptional professionalism and dedicated service to the country, extending gratitude from the President and Commander-in-Chief.

The CDS informed the Generals that many of them would be honorably released from service as part of a restructuring effort to aid command and control within the Armed Forces, in accordance with GAF regulations.

On behalf of the Generals, the Commandant of the National College of Defence Studies, Major General Irvine Aryeetey, acknowledged the change in military high command structure, citing historical precedents within the GAF. He noted that such transitions are consistent with military tradition, where new intakes take over from predecessors.

The Generals appreciated the CDS’s gesture of inviting them to a formal meeting, which they considered a novelty. The meeting concluded with a luncheon hosted by the CDS, where he wished the Generals well in their future endeavors. The event was attended by Service Chiefs and the Chief of Staff, General Headquarters.

This meeting marked a significant moment in the Ghana Armed Forces, highlighting the importance of honouring and recognizing the contributions of senior military personnel. As the Generals transition to new roles, their legacy and experience will undoubtedly continue to shape the future of the GAF.
