At the launch of the Adwumawura Programme in Kumasi on April 28, 2025, President John Mahama announced that at least 60% of beneficiaries will be women, persons with disabilities (PWDs), unemployed youth, school dropouts, and young people from conflict-affected areas.

The initiative aims to be inclusive, focusing on supporting the most vulnerable segments of society. President Mahama highlighted the importance of empowering women, particularly those in male-dominated fields, and young individuals from mining communities previously engaged in illegal mining, commonly referred to as “galamsey.”

He acknowledged that many young Ghanaians possess innovative business ideas but struggle to launch them due to a lack of capital and skills. The Adwumawura Programme will provide access to funding, coaching, mentorship, technology, equipment, and machinery to help these businesses flourish.

Successful applicants will receive mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs, along with 24/7 business advisory services to navigate challenges post-establishment. The selection of businesses will be based on their scalability, sustainability, and potential for job creation. Applications will be submitted online and assessed by an impartial body to ensure fairness.

President Mahama assured that the Adwumawura Programme is fully funded under the 2025 national budget, distinguishing it from past initiatives that faltered due to financial constraints. He encouraged all young Ghanaians, regardless of their educational background, to apply, emphasizing that the programme is open to university graduates, vocational school alumni, SHS leavers, and even those with minimal formal education.

He concluded by emphasizing the goal of significantly reducing youth unemployment and empowering young Ghanaians to transition from unemployment to owning successful businesses, thereby securing a brighter future for themselves and the nation.
