The Ghana Union Movement (GUM) has made it clear that it is not involved in the planned protest against the suspension of the Chief Justice.
In an interview with 3News, GUM’s General Secretary, Anthony Arhinful, stated that the party does not support the protest and has not sent anyone to represent it. “The Ghana Union Movement does not support the demonstration against the Chief Justice’s suspension,” Arhinful emphasized, explaining that the party believes President John Dramani Mahama acted in accordance with the Constitution during the suspension.
“We believe the President acted according to the law and did nothing wrong,” he added.
Amid claims that a GUM official was helping to organize the protest, Arhinful clarified that their Communication Officer, Frank Owusu Frimpong, was invited to a meeting by the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) in his personal capacity, not as a representative of GUM. “Our communication officer was called personally, not as an official of GUM,” Arhinful stressed, urging the public not to confuse Frimpong’s personal attendance with GUM’s endorsement of the protest.
On April 26, 2025, GUM released a statement reminding all its members not to participate in any protests related to the Chief Justice’s suspension. The party reaffirmed its commitment to democracy and the rule of law, urging the public and media to disregard any reports linking GUM to the protest, labeling such claims as “of no legitimate value.”
