A senior official at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Dr. Abubakar Bawah Abdulai, has been appointed by President John Dramani Mahama as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), succeeding Dr. Adam Atiku.
This change comes in the wake of Dr. Atiku’s dismissal on April 22, 2025, following an unannounced visit to the hospital by Health Minister Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh. The visit was prompted by the tragic death of a patient, Bavug Salim, who reportedly passed away due to a non-functional ventilator in the hospital’s emergency department.
Dr. Bawah Abdulai’s appointment signifies a crucial leadership transition at TTH, occurring amidst growing tensions between the medical community and government officials.
