The Most Reverend John Kobina Louis, auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Accra, has emphasized that Easter serves as a call to higher moral standards, urging believers to turn away from sinful behaviors and embrace a life of virtue and holiness.
“Easter is not merely a time for festivities but a sacred period that honors the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who died for our sins,” he stated.
In his Easter message delivered on Wednesday, Bishop Louis encouraged Christians to use this season as an opportunity for forgiveness, personal transformation, and alignment with the teachings of Christ. He highlighted the profound spiritual significance of Easter, reminding the faithful of the ultimate sacrifice and the promise of eternal life.
“By embracing the true essence of Easter, Christians can find renewed hope, strength, and purpose in their faith journey,” he said.
Referencing 1 Corinthians 15:12-14, 17-20, he asserted, “No Resurrection, No Christianity! No Easter, No (Christian) Feast!” For Christians today, Easter should symbolize hope, renewal, forgiveness, holiness, and unwavering faith in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which is the cornerstone of Christian belief.
In today’s world, the Bishop noted, the resurrection of Jesus carries immense spiritual significance, serving as a beacon of hope amid suffering and uncertainty. “The resurrection assures believers that death is not the end and that through faith, there is the promise of eternal life,” he explained.
He encouraged Christians to live lives filled with purpose, resilience, and unwavering faith, recognizing their role in a greater divine plan. Bishop Louis also stressed that the resurrection fosters unity, as God created one common race and family from all the peoples of the world.
He called on everyone to become ambassadors of peace and to actively fight against evil in their lives. “Let’s strive to be better Christians and renewed citizens, ensuring that the peace of the risen Christ fills our hearts,” he urged.
